Reconnecting an item

Last updated 25 August 2026

Bank access tokens expire. Most institutions require re-authentication periodically, and always after a password change, card replacement, or revoked consent.

Signs an item needs reconnecting

- The connection shows a "needs attention" or error state.

- Last successful sync is more than a few days old.

- New subscriptions stop appearing while charges continue on the statement.

How to reconnect

1. Open your bank connections page.

2. Select the affected institution and choose Reconnect.

3. Authenticate in the provider window, completing any multi-factor step.

4. Wait for the sync to finish; the status returns to healthy and the cursor resumes.

Reconnecting keeps your existing history, subscriptions, and savings ledger — it refreshes the credential, it does not start over.

Common error states explained

- Login required. Credentials or consent changed at the bank. Reconnect.

- Consent expired. Open banking consent reached its regulatory limit. Reconnect to renew.

- Institution error. A temporary outage at the bank. It usually clears on its own; retry later.

- Item revoked. Access was withdrawn from your bank's app. Reconnect and re-approve.

If reconnection keeps failing

Sign in to your bank directly first to clear any pending security prompt, then retry. If it still fails, contact support with the institution name and the error shown — we can see the provider-side reason.
